Wm. Karnolt 5-string banjo, Circa 1893
This unusual banjo in labeled "Wm. Karnolt, Banjo Maker, 118 Sheriff St., New York". The fingerboard is very thin, more like a veneer than a real fingerboard, and it is inlayed with a combination of pearl and silver. The inlay closest to the rim has two silver "waves" with pearl "caps", and the oddly-shaped peghead has a shooting star inlayed in pearl. The neck has been refinished (obviously). A good playing banjo from an obscure maker.
