Fairbanks & Cole 5-string banjo, S/N 1301, Circa 1881
This beautiful, very early, F&C banjo has flush maple frets and ornamental patterns of tiny diamond pearl inlays on both the peghead and fingerboard. The dot inlays are surrounded by small brass rings, and the tuning pegs are carved ivory. The neck has an early version of the "boat" heel seen on F&C banjos from this period.
