A. A. Farland “Artist’s Grand" No.2, 5-string banjo Circa 1902
Farland was a famous classical banjoist, and in the early 1900's he introduced a banjo under his name with a beveled wood rim instead of the various metal tone rings offered by others. This was the top of the Farland line, and was made by Rettberg & Lange. Note that the fingerboard inlays are basically the same as those on an Orpheum No. 3 Special. I've used the 1902 date for this version of Farland's fanciest banjo because it exactly conforms to the model shown in his 1902 catalog.
