"Celebrated Benary" 5-string banjo, Circa 1890
"Celebrated Benary" banjos were sold by Robert H. Benary & Son of New York, a major musical importer and wholesaler who sold a full range of musical instruments. The banjo shown here was undoubtedly made by Buckbee, also of New York and has a 10" rim and a 25" scale length, so it was probably a ladies' banjo. Note the embossed pattern on the rim.
