George C. Dobson "Victor-Regal" 5-string banjo Circa 1880's
This model was the top-of-the-line in George Dobson's "Victor" line, and retailed for the princely sum of $70 in the 1880 catalogs. It features elegant pearl and pewter inlays, a rim spunover on the inside and outside with an engraved stretcher band, and an ebony backstrap. An example of a Dobson "Victor-Superior" banjo, priced just below the Regal at $60, is shown on my "Banjos I have once owned" page, and is very similar to this model.
