S.S. Stewart “Thoroughbred” 5-string banjo, S/N 6096, Circa 1890
This is a relatively early Stewart, and at the time was about as good a banjo as he could make. The neck is made of cherry with multiple laminations under the fingerboard, the peghead is nicely inlaid, and the heel carving is first-rate. Stewart preferred banjos with austere fingerboards, and this was one of his favorite models.
