S.S. Stewart "Pony Concert" banjo, S/N 6670, Circa 1891
Another banjo from the Tsumura Collection, this is one of the rarest of the unusual size banjos made by Stewart with an 8" rim and 18" scale, 19 frets. "Intended for rapid execution and brilliant stage and parlor playing", it was tuned like a regular banjo capo-ed to the 7th or 9th fret. This example has No. 1 ornamentation and the original pegs and tailpiece.
