Fairbanks & Cole piccolo 5-string banjo, S/N 6870, Circa 1885
This ultra-rare banjo is a true piccolo banjo intended for use in the banjo orchestras that became popular in the 1880's and was meant to be tuned up one full octave from the standard tunings of the time. Despite its small size, it is made to the same exacting standards of all Fairbanks & Cole banjos with the original F&C tailpiece and Maltese cross tuners.
