Edward C. Dobson 5-string banjo Circa 1890's
Edward Dobson was probably the least inventive of the Dobson brothers in terms of banjo design, but like his brothers he was a fine player, performer, and teacher. Although this banjo is marked "Ed. C. Dobson, maker", it was probably made by Rettberg & Lange for Dobson to sell under his name. The fingerboard inlays are similar to those found on R&L's later Orpheum banjos. The rim on this banjo is spunover on both the inside and outside.
