S.S. Stewart “American Princess No. 2” 5-string banjo, S/N 16544, Circa 1895
In the 1880’s-1890’s, the banjo was a very popular parlor instrument with women, and Stewart sold two different models aimed at female players. The “American Princess” model featured a 10” rim, and this No. 2 example has nice inlay work and a lightly carved heel.
