Ludwig "Ambassador" tenor banjo, S/N 1501, Circa 1924
Ludwig was a drum manufacturer who introduced a very innovative line of banjos in 1924. Among the new design features pioneered by Ludwig was a cast bronze combination rim and flange, 4:1 "Planet" tuners, top-tensioning, and a novel neck angle adjustment system. This early Ludwig banjo was second from the top of the line at the time it was introduced, and pre-dates the more commonly seen top-tensioned Ludwig banjos. Note the extensive engraving of the gold-plated metal parts and the nice engraved pearl work.
