"Luscomb 1893 Patent" 5-string banjo, S/N 1638, Circa 1895
In 1893, Thompson & Odell patented a new "Luscomb" banjo with a wood tone ring. This banjo used a thick spunover wood rim with a heavy inner metal ring sandwiching the wood over which the head was stretched. This is a well-made, heavy banjo with very nice pearl inlays on the peghead and fingerboard.
