A.C. Fairbanks (by Vega) "Tubaphone" #9, 5-string banjo, S/N 25516, Circa 1909
This is a very early example of a Tubaphone No. 9 banjo, made during the first year of production when the peghead inlay was a beautiful inlaid pearl wreath and flower design. In many ways, this banjo represents the ultimate in Boston banjo making following years of banjo development by Fairbanks, Cole, and Vega. The Tubaphone tone ring was designed by David Day, who later worked for Fred Bacon and helped create his line of Bacon & Day banjos. This example is in wonderful condition, and is top drawer in every way.
