Fairbanks & Cole 5-string banjo, S/N 4022, Circa 1884
This early Fairbanks & Cole banjo has a rim similar to those found on the "Imperial" models in my collection, but without the half-spun metal on the upper part of the rim. This model has nice saw-cut inlays and multiple veneers underneath the fingerboard, an early boat-style heel, and lovely inlaid pearl and brass around the bottom of the rim.
